Article I - Name and Purpose [Back to top]

Section I - Name and Domicile

The name of this organization shall be, Descendants of Rev. Robert and Sarah (Winter) Jordan, hereinafter referred to as "The Family Jordan".  It shall be organized under the laws of the State of Maine with its principal office being the home residence of the National President until such time as a permanent office or other location is established by the Board of Directors.

Section II - Purpose

The Family Jordan shall be a non-profit corporation organized to research, preserve, promote, and foster the history, genealogy, data, artifacts and memorabilia of predecessors to and/or descendants of the Rev. Robert and Sarah (Winter) Jordan, their heirs and assigns. It shall be non-partisan, non-sectarian, and shall wholly abstain from endorsements of candidates for public office.

Section I - Eligibility

Any individual or family descendants of the Rev. Robert and Sarah (Winter) Jordan, their heirs and assigns or others in accord with the objectives of this organization shall be eligible to membership. The organization will accept members of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded to all members.

Section II - Affiliation

The Family Jordan may affiliate with other groups and organizations whose programs and/or objectives parallel those of The Family Jordan. Such affiliation, however, shall require the approval of the Board of Directors.

Section I - Elective Offices

The Elected Officers shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and four (4) Regional Directors, one (1) from each of the four regions as outlined in the organizations By-Laws.

Section II - Appointed Officials

The Appointed Officers shall be a Legal Counsel, Historian and others as the Board of Directors may approve at its discretion. Appointed Officers, unless otherwise designated, shall not be voting members of The Board.

Section III - Special Appointments

The President of The Family Jordan with Board approval, may appoint the immediate Past President of The Family Jordan to a seat on the Board with all rights and voting privileges granted to the board members. Such term shall coincide with, but not exceed that of the President making the appointment.

Article IV - Governing Body [Back to top]

Section I - Board of Directors

The Government of the Family Jordan shall be vested in a Board consisting of the elected officers and directors named in ARTICLE III, SECTION I of these Articles of Incorporation. It may include appointed officers, with or without voting privileges, at the Board's discretion, in accord with ARTICLE III. This body shall hereinafter be referred to as The Board. Elective offices shall be filled by vote of the general membership as prescribed in the organization's By-Laws and Policy.

Section I - Amendments

These Articles of Incorporation may be amended in accord with ARTICLE IX, SECTION I, II and III of the By-Laws.
